Comment:   Dear Heather, Keep going. You are doing what is right. You deserve to know what the State knows. There are lots of people who do not know you personally who believe in you and your cause. Take heart.

Comment:   You've been through hell and should never have served any time in prison. You had every right to defend yourself at the hands of a violent and brutal monster. I respect you and feel for you too, having been exposed to domestic violence at a very young age....the memories of which may have faded but will always be with me. I'm disgusted by the way that the system has treated you and equally appalled by the Bracks Government's approach also, which has left much to be desired. Best of luck for the future Heather. May all your dreams come true and may you heal from your traumatic past as much as possible.

Comment:   I was beaten by my husband for many years, I also was sexually abused over and over by him..On many occasions the thoughts of being free of him crossed my mind. I was lucky enough to get away after many years of being to scared to do anything I ran and ran like the wind. My heart goes out to you Heather, please take care and know that I only being one woman knows what you went through. (With your husband) that is. I could never in my wildest dreams even begin to understand what you went through in jail..Cheryl

Comment:   Alas, some things simply don't change, or people refuse to change them. The moral issues in regard to your case are many and varied, and I cannot marvel at the treatment you received when only a couple of short months ago another woman (victim) walked completely free from court after facing remarkably similar charges as yours. In my eyes you a victim yourself. Yep, the law works in mysterious ways indeed! Good luck for your future, Heather, and I can only hope that you look forward to it with confidence.

Comment:   After watching Heather's Australian Story, I was in awe of this woman.  After what she has had to endure, I hope that she may now enjoy some sort of "normal" life, whatever that may be.  God bless you Heather, you are in my prayers.

Comment:   Heather, you are one of the most courageous women that I have ever heard of. I have never suffered any form of abuse, and cannot fathom what you have been through. Good luck for the future, I wish you all the very best. Please take care.

Comment:   My family and I just became aware of Heather's story (on Australian Story). Our hearts ached at the cruelty and injustice Heather and her children had to suffer. Especially, the court's denial of Heather's right to self-defense. It is vital that Justices Kirby, McHugh and Callinan (and every other patriarchal-minded judge) be re-educated about women's experiences in domestic violence and the decisions they make in order to SURVIVE.

Comment:   Dear Heather, Having just watched the program on ABC I felt compelled to write in support of you. Very uncharacteristically for me, I have just cried heartilly for a person I've never even met. I cannot hope to fathom the pain you have had to endure both living with a monster like that and then incarceration for what you did to ensure yours and your familie's safety. The law really has failed you many times over. If this man's crimes had been pursued earnestly he should have spent the rest of his life rotting in a cell for the tally of crimes committed against you and your children. On the program you said you regret the time lost with your family while in jail, but you would have lost for all time if you had killed yourself instead. Rather, cherish the time that you now have to spend with them and do not ever give up the fight for justice & reform. Your life story has not been in vain if it sets a precedent that saves hundreds, even thousands of people from suffering the same. And you said you live with the stigma of a convicted murderess, but this is not true, as you will instead be remembered as a martyr for literally millions of people and for generations to come. I certainly will remember your story for the rest of my life. Sincerely, Dan

Comment:   I was so angry after watching Australian Story, as well as dismayed and horrified. Can not begin to even think of the anguish which Heather and David have gone through. How can anyone expect you to be able to stop a beast like that? A sane jury should have seen that Heather and David acted in self-defence. You two were in no way to blame for stopping yourself from further brutalisation, even death. Thank you, Heather, for sharing your story and your poem. To David, as well, we who have gone through our own domestic violence situations, know that the night-mares remain for a long time. Please look after yourselves in every way, which you deserve. May peace, happiness and personal wellness be with both of you forever. To others aware of Heather's story, lest we forget this tragedy, which society should not have allowed, please do whatever you can to help prevent and stop domestic violence.
