Croatian Film Festival
6/11/09, 7/11/09, 8/11/09
In just a few weeks’ time, the inaugural Croatian Film Festival will be landing at Melbourne’s ACMI cinemas at Federation Square, taking place between 5th and 8th November.
Lovers of international cinema are invited to come and experience the unique cinematic output of a culturally and spiritually unique part of Eastern Europe, known to many Australian tourists for its natural beauty, rich history and delicious food. The Festival will unearth the gems that represent the renaissance of the Croatian film industry that has been taking place since 2000, following the country’s War of Independence.
Thirteen of the country’s finest films will be screened during the four day event (many of which have never been screened in Australia), and the program spans a wide range of feature films, documentaries and animations, as well as a number of twentieth century classics, all showcasing a wide range of daring cinematic techniques.
Audiences will be captured by the intense and often gritty depictions of love and war, life after communism, social change and a very specific black humour that characterises the nation. Highlights include I Love You, What Iva Recorded on October 21, 2003 and the opening night film, Armin.
