Located in the back streets of Fitzroy for over 140 years, about 50 metres from the thriving hub that is Brunswick Street, this hidden beauty stands tall and proud as one of Melbourne’s oldest and friendliest pubs. Believed by many to have closed down permanently, the new owners have preserved the venue as a live entertainment pub, continuing to host some of Melbourne’s best blues, jazz and roots style music.
Bands play at this iconic pub several times a week – in particular, weekends are rockin’! The Monday night tradition of Paul Williamson’s Hammond Combo continues, with this legendary act featuring the last Monday of each month. Thursday have been set aside as an open mic night for any budding artist wanting a stab at the glamorous heights of music stardom.
If music is not your thing, the Rainbow’s “Wood-be” Trivia on Wednesday nights will baffle any trivia aficionado. Or chill out in the huge leafy beer garden over a game of pool, on the comfy lounges, or over a sizzling barbie (cook your own-lunch only!).
The Rainbow prides itself on serving the best Aussie brews on tap, from your traditional Carlton Draught to a selection of microbrewery beers. Wines, cigars, and coffee are also available, or let your tastebuds be tantalised by one of the house specialties - a dry martini with an olive or three, or the smooth but fiery “Flaming Rainbow” shooter.
Other features include a jukebox, free function rooms, ATM facilities. A restaurant providing quality hotel food is now open.
Come in and enjoy the Rainbow’s friendly service and relaxed, hip environment.
The Rainbow Hotel – Come for a beer, stay for the music.
