We all know that Aussie Rules is the greatest game in the world; to watch, barrack for and to play as
well. Most girls and women growing up in footy-mad Melbourne don't realise that they too can experience
the joys of donning a guernsey and boots and playing for THEIR team. You don't have to wash jumpers
for your brothers anymore!
The Melbourne University Girls' Aussie Rules Squad (the MUGARS) are Melbourne University's one
and only club for Women's Aussie Rules Football. Originally founded in 1996, the Mugars entered into
the Victorian Women's Football League (VWFL) in 1997, having a very successful first season for a new
club.
The MUGARS are keen for new recruits for season 2002!

wanting to learn to play a new sport orcontinue playing a sport you enjoyed in high school?
Then we need you!
You don't have to:
be a university student
have played the game before
know the rules (although it helps)
be able to kick, handpass, tackle or take a spekky
The MUGARS came into existence with just a handful of players. Since 2000, there were two teams (1st
and 2nd Division), and our Division 1 team has made it into the finals for the last three seasons. In 2001
we made it into our first ever grand final. The MUGARS cater for those who've never picked up a Sherrin
in their lives, as well as those who've played before. All of the experienced players are only too happy to
show new players the skills and with two teams, everyone will get a chance to slug it out on the field
before too long. We are also one of the friendliest teams in the competition, with plenty of after-hours
social activities on the agenda. We always enjoy having new people join the club in any capacity.
