The Medical Scientists Association of Victoria (MSAV) and the Victorian Psychologists Association (VPA) are both component Associations of the Health Services Union of Australia (HSUA) Victoria No. 4 Branch with the Association of Hospital Pharmacists. MSAV is the only union in Victoria which specifically looks after the industrial interests of medical scientists.

The VTHC is the Victorian branch of the ACTU. It grew from the historic winning of the 8-hour day by the Melbourne building trades in 1856. In that year a Trades Hall Committee was formed to receive a grant of land on which the world's first Trades Hall (or "Workers' Parliament") was built in 1859.
