Configuring Mac Mail for MacOS X 10.5

• Start Mail.
• If it is the first time you are setting up your account, a wizard will walk you through the steps. If the wizard does not appear you can open up the wizard by going to the File menu, then Add Account to launch the wizard.
• Enter your Full Name
• Enter your email address, e.g. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
• Enter your password
• Click Continue.

The following prompts will only come up if Mail fails to automatically detect your settings.

• Enter the following information:
• Account Type: POP
• Description: vicnet
• Incoming Mail Server: mail.vicnet.net.au
• User Name: Your Username. e.g. jcitizen
• Password: Your password
• Click Continue.

The Incoming Mail Security window will only show up if the attempt to detect the settings fails. If you do see it, enter the following information.

• Uncheck the box for Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
• Ensure that "Password" is selected in the "Authentication" dropdown box
• Click Continue.

 

• To configure the Outgoing Mail Server, enter the following information.
• Description: [Optional, may be left blank]
• Outgoing Mail Server: Put your ISP's outgoing mail server
• Check the "Use only this server" box.
• If ticked, Uncheck the "Use Authentication" box.
• Click Continue.

The Outgoing Mail Security window will only show up if the attempt to detect the settings fails. If you do see it, enter the following information.

• Uncheck the box Use Authentication and/or Use SSL
• Click Continue.

This next section summarizes the settings that you have made.



Check the "Take account online" box to receive mail as soon as you click Create.

Click Create.
