    • The at part simply gets the attention of the modem
    • &f sets the modem to it's factory default range of settings
    • x3 instructs the modem to ignore dial tone irregularities and attempt to connect anyway

    • The at part simply gets the attention of the modem
    • &f sets the modem to it's factory default range of settings
    • x3 instructs the modem to ignore dial tone irregularities and attempt to connect anyway
    • +MS denotes that the modem is to follow the modulation selection parameters specified in the next part of the string
    • 12 sets the modulation type to be v.90 - the unifying 56k standard wholly supported by Vicnet
    • 1 sets the modulation selection to be automatic should the quality of the connection vary
    • 300 sets the minimum bit per second (bps) connection speed
    • 40000 sets the maximum bit per second (bps) connection speed
