Macintosh: Eudora

Eudora is a stand alone email program dedicated to the task of managing your email. Eudora was developed by Steve Dorner in 1988 as a part of his studies at the University of Illinois where the pioneering Web browser Mosaic was also later developed. Eudora was acquired by Qualcomm in 1991. Eudora, named after Eudora Welty who was "a short story writer and novelist who wrote poignantly about the men and women of her native American South", was one of the more popular email programs in the early days of the Internet due to "free distribution and the scrupulous integration of user feedback". Eudora is now used by more than 20 million people worldwide.
