Spam Filtering

Spam Methodology

Recently Vicnet implemented some new spam (junk) e-mail checking software.

Both outgoing and incoming e-mail is checked.

E-mails that have been classified as spam will have *****SPAM***** inserted in the subject header of the e-mail. Spam detection is not perfect, members should be aware that the software will occasionally tag legitimate e-mail as spam.

You may wish to filter these e-mails into a separate folder in your e-mail program or delete these e-mails.

Configuring Eudora 3 to deal with SPAM is quite easy. Here's how it's done.

  1. Double Click on the Harddisk
  2. Double Click on Eudora Application Folder
  3. Double Click on Eudora
  4. Click the Special menu
  5. Click Filters
  6. Click New
  7. In the header field select subject from the drop down menu
  8. Within the adjacent field next to contains, type *****SPAM*****
  9. Options

If you wish to delete all email marked *****SPAM***** from the server...

Please note: This option is only available in Eudora 3 Pro

    1. Within the Action section, click the first drop down list and click select Server Options
    2. Tick Delete
    3. Proceed to step 9

If you wish to download all email marked *****SPAM***** and store it in a separate folder...

    1. Within the Action section, click the first drop down list and selectTransfer To
    2. Click the Transfer Menu
    3. Select New
    4. In the name of the mailbox form type in SPAM
    5. Click OK
    6. Within the Action section, click the second drop down list and select Skip Rest
  10. Click the File menu
  11. Click Save
  12. Click the File menu
  13. Click Quit

Those are all the settings you need, your installation of Eudora 3 is now configured for use with your VICNET email account!
