Spam Filtering

Spam Methodology

Recently Vicnet implemented some new spam (junk) e-mail checking software.

Both outgoing and incoming e-mail is checked.

E-mails that have been classified as spam will have *****SPAM***** inserted in the subject header of the e-mail. Spam detection is not perfect, members should be aware that the software will occasionally tag legitimate e-mail as spam.

You may wish to filter these e-mails into a separate folder in your e-mail program or delete these e-mails.

Configuring Eudora 5.1 to deal with SPAM is quite easy. Here's how it's done.

  1. Click the Window menu
  2. Click Filters
  3. Click the New button
  4. Click in the box next to Incoming
  5. Click the box next to Manual
  6. Click on the arrows at the end of the Header box and choose Subject
  7. In the box next to Contains type *****SPAM*****
  8. Options

If you wish to delete email marked *****SPAM***** from the server...

    1. In the Actions section, click on the arrows at the end of the first None box and choose Server Options
    2. Click in the box next to Delete
    3. Click the File menu
    4. Click Save

If you wish to download all email marked *****SPAM***** and store it in a separate folder...

    5. In the Actions section, click on the arrows at the end of the first None box and choose Transfer To
    6. Click on the blank button next to Transfer To
    7. A window will pop up instructing you to choose a mailbox from the Transfer menu

    8. Click the Transfer menu
    9. Click New...
    10. Type SPAM for the name of the folder
    11. Click OK
  9. Click the File menu
  10. Click Save

Those are all the settings you need. Eudora 5.1 will now deal with email marked *****SPAM***** automatically for you!
