Macintosh - FreePPP

Editing FreePPP

  1. Click on the blue phone on the top menu bar to the right of the screen
  2. Select Open FreePPP Setup
  3. Click on the triangle on the bottom left of the window
  4. Make sure the only box ticked is next to Show alerts during connect and disconnect
  5. Click on the Accounts Tab
  6. Click on the Edit button on the right of the screen
  7. Type in VICNET for the Account name
  8. Make sure Connect is set to Directly
  9. Type in your Username and Password
  10. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
  11. Make sure the box is not ticked next to Reconnect automatically if connection drops
  12. Click on the Dialup tab
  13. Type 03 in the Area code box but do not tick the box next to Dial area code
  14. In the Phone Number box, type the phone number of the VICNET access location closest to you
    • Apollo Bay: 52378000
    • Mallacoota: 51580931
    • Melbourne: 96574500

  15. Enter 03 for the area code
  16. Make sure Dial area code is not ticked
  17. Click on the Options tab
  18. In the Domain name box type in vicnet.net.au
  19. In the Primary DNS box type in 203.10.72.1
  20. In the Secondary DNS box type in 192.190.180.69
  21. Make sure you do not have a tick in the box next to Configure OT TCP/IP for this Account
  22. Make sure you have IP address Assigned by PPP server selected
  23. Click OK
  24. Click on the Locations tab
  25. Click on the Edit button on the right of the screen
  26. If you are not using a direct phone line, type the prefix number in the Dial prefix box
  27. Click OK
  28. Click on the Modems tab
  29. Highlight your modem
  30. Click on the Edit button
  31. In the Modem config name box, type in something like modem for Vicnet account
  32. Click on the arrows at the end of the Port Speed box and select 57000bps
  33. Click on the arrows at the end of the Flow control box and select CTS & RTS (DTR)
  34. Make sure the boxes are ticked next to Speaker enabled and Hangup on disconnect
  35. In the Modem init string settings make sure you leave the black dot next to Use, use the initialisation string which is there
  36. Click OK
  37. Click on Connect
  38. If you can not connect you may need to use a connection script or tweak your modem settings.
