Tweaking your modem settings

  1. If you can not get connected while using a connection script you may need to change the initialisation string
  2. Click on the blue phone on the top menu bar to the right of the screen
  3. Select Open FreePPP Setup

  4. Click on the Modems tab
  5. Highlight the modem you are using for your Vicnet account by clicking once on the name in the list of modems
  6. Click on the Edit button
  7. In the Use box of the Modem init string settings section, you can type in commands (strings) to instruct your modem to behave differently
  8. Initialisation (modem) strings

Modem command (strings) combinations are infinite. It is important to find the correct command(s) for your modem. At Vicnet Help we will first try a variety of common generic commands (strings), however for optimal modem performance, it is best to research modem command (strings) database sites such as www.modemhelp.org for a command (string) specific to your modem.

  9. Click OK
  10. Click Connect
