Macintosh OS9: Dialling

Setting up Remote Access

The screen pictures shown here are an example of what remote access looks like. The appearance of remote access will vary depending on the version of operating system and open transport installed on your Macintosh. If you need help setting up your connection please call the Vicnet help desk.
  1. Ensure you have installed your modem
  2. Click the Apple Menu at the top left of your screen
  3. Click Control Panels
  4. Click Remote Access
  5. If you see a small window like this:
  6. You will need to click on the arrow next to the word Setup
  7. Within the Name box, type your username
  8. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
  9. Within the Password box, type your password
  10. Ensure Save password is ticked
  11. In the Number box, type the phone number of the Vicnet access location closest to you
    • Apollo Bay: 52378000
    • Mallacoota: 51580931
    • Melbourne: 96574500

  12. Click on the Options button
  13. On the Protocol tab, make sure you only have Allow error correction and compression in modem and Use TCP header compression ticked
  14. Click on the Connection tab
  15. Make sure you only have Flash icon in menu bar while connected ticked
  16. Click on the Redialing tab
  17. Make sure Redial is set to Off
  18. Click OK
  19. Click Connect

If you cannot connect you may need to use a terminal window in your remote access settings or use a third party dialing software called FreePPP. If you are not confident you can do that, please contact Vicnet Help and we can help you fine tune your connection setting.
