aboutWindows 2000 was released on February 17 2000. As is obvious from it's original name - Windows NT5 - Windows 2000 is "built on NT technology". Windows 2000 was to be the merging of the Windows NT and Windows 9x operating systems. In the end Microsoft could not achieve this goal and hence Windows 2000, like WIndows NT4, became primarily a business oriented operating system. Windows 2000 included many long desired improvements over Windows NT4 such as Plug and Play hardware configuration, a Device Manager, Active Directory, reduced need to reboot, Encrypted File System, Windows Installer, USB and IEEE1394 (FireWire) support. Please note: Vicnet Customer Service is unable to support Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server or Datacentre Server. related sites |
