Windows 2000: Editing the connection

  1. Click the Start button
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Double click the Network and Dial-Up Connections shortcut
  5. Click your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting
  6. Click the File menu
  7. Click Properties
  8. Ensure only one modem is selected 
  9. Ensure Use dialling rules is not ticked
  10. Ensure Show icon in taskbar when connected is ticked
  11. Click the Options tab 
  12. Ensure Include Windows logon domain is not ticked
  13. Select never from the Idle time before hanging up drop down menu
  14. Click the Security tab 
  15. Within the Security options section, ensure Typical (recommended settings) is selected
  16. Within the Validate my identity as follows section, ensure Allow unsecured password is selected
  17. Click the Networking tab 
  18. Ensure the Type of dial-up server I am calling is PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet
  19. Click the Settings button
  20. Ensure Negotiate multi-link for single link connections is not ticked
  21. Click the OK button
  22. Under the section titled Components checked are used by this connection, ensure Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is ticked
  23. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
  24. Click the Properties button
  25. Select Use the following DNS server addresses
  26. Within the Preferred DNS server box, type 203.10.72.1
  27. Within the Alternate DNS server box, type 203.10.72.25
  28. Click the Advanced... button
  29. Click the DNS tab
  30. Select Append these DNS suffixes (in order)
  31. Click the Add button
  32. Type Vicnet.net.au
  33. Click the Add button
  34. Click the Add button
  35. Type slv.vic.gov.au
  36. Click the Add button
  37. Ensure Register this connection's addresses in DNS is ticked
  38. Click the OK button
  39. Click the OK button
  40. Click the OK button
  41. Your Windows 2000 based computer now has a Dial-Up Networking connection setting configured for connecting to Vicnet.

  42. From within the Dial-Up Networking window, double click your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting
  43. In the Password box, type in your password
  44. Click the Dial button

If you cannot connect you may need to tweak your modem settings or use a script in your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting. If you are not confident with either of these options, please contact Vicnet Help and we can help you fine tune your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting.
