Windows 2000: Editing the connection
- Click the Start button
- Click Settings
- Click Control Panel
- Double click the Network and Dial-Up Connections shortcut
- Click your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting
- Click the File menu
- Click Properties

- Ensure only one modem is selected
- Ensure Use dialling rules is not ticked
- Ensure Show icon in taskbar when connected is ticked
- Click the Options tab

- Ensure Include Windows logon domain is not ticked
- Select never from the Idle time before hanging up drop down menu
- Click the Security tab

- Within the Security options section, ensure Typical (recommended settings) is selected
- Within the Validate my identity as follows section, ensure Allow unsecured password is selected
- Click the Networking tab

- Ensure the Type of dial-up server I am calling is PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet
- Click the Settings button

- Ensure Negotiate multi-link for single link connections is not ticked
- Click the OK button
- Under the section titled Components checked are used by this connection, ensure Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is ticked
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- Click the Properties button

- Select Use the following DNS server addresses
- Within the Preferred DNS server box, type 203.10.72.1
- Within the Alternate DNS server box, type 203.10.72.25
- Click the Advanced... button
- Click the DNS tab

- Select Append these DNS suffixes (in order)
- Click the Add button

- Type Vicnet.net.au
- Click the Add button
- Click the Add button
- Type slv.vic.gov.au
- Click the Add button
- Ensure Register this connection's addresses in DNS is ticked
- Click the OK button
- Click the OK button
- Click the OK button
Your Windows 2000 based computer now has a Dial-Up Networking connection setting configured for connecting to Vicnet.
- From within the Dial-Up Networking window, double click your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting

- In the Password box, type in your password
- Click the Dial button
If you cannot connect you may need to tweak your modem settings or use a script in your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting. If you are not confident with either of these options, please contact Vicnet Help and we can help you fine tune your Vicnet Dial-Up Networking connection setting.
