Spam Filtering

Spam Methodology

Recently Vicnet implemented some new spam (junk) e-mail checking software.

Both outgoing and incoming e-mail is checked.

E-mails that have been classified as spam will have *****SPAM***** inserted in the subject header of the e-mail. Spam detection is not perfect, members should be aware that the software will occasionally tag legitimate e-mail as spam.

You may wish to filter these e-mails into a separate folder in your e-mail program or delete these e-mails.

Configuring Eudora 5 to deal with SPAM is quite easy. Here's how it's done.

  1. Click the Start button
  2. Click Programs
  3. Click Eudora
  4. Click Eudora
  5. Click the Tools menu
  6. Click Filters
  7. Click New
  8. Within the Match section, select Subject: from the Header: drop down list
  9. The next drop down list below the Header: list should already be set to contains.

  10. Within the adjacent field, type *****SPAM*****
  11. Options

If you wish to delete all email marked *****SPAM***** from the server...

    1. Within the Action section, click the first drop down list and select Server Options
    2. Tick Delete
    3. Proceed to step 10

If you wish to download all email marked *****SPAM***** and store it in a separate folder...

    1. Within the Action section, click the first drop down list and clickTransfer To
    2. A button will appear...

    3. Click the button and select New...
    4. Within the New Mailbox window, type SPAM
    5. Click the second drop down list and click Skip Rest
    6. Click OK
  12. Click the File menu
  13. Click Save
  14. Click the File menu
  15. Click Close

Those are all the settings you need. Eudora 5 will now deal with email marked *****SPAM***** automatically for you!
