FileZilla v2.X.X
Version 3.X.X
Version 2.X.X
Resources
Here are the basic steps required to set up FileZilla v2.X.X for connecting to your VICNET Web space.
Unless otherwise stated, VICNET advises that you leave the default settings in place when you install FileZilla. Failure to use the installation defaults shown may mean we’re unable to assist you with problems you may have.
-
Download version 2.2.32 (the latest before version 3), and save it to your desktop.
-
If you have downloaded the installer, you’ll then find an icon on the desktop similar to the picture below. Double click it to launch the installer. Depending on how your copy of windows is configured, you may see “.exe” on the end of the filename.

-
When you launch the installer, it will ask you to select the language. Leave it on English and click “OK”.

-
You will now be presented with the program’s license information. FileZilla is licensed under the GNU Public License. In this case it effectively means it is legally free to use. Click “Next” to continue if you agree to the terms of the license.

-
This next screen allows you to choose which components of FileZilla you wish to install. Leave the defaults as shown. Click “Next” to continue.

-
FileZilla will now ask where it is to be installed. Click “Next” to continue.

-
The location within the “Programs” menu where FileZilla will appear is now shown. Click “Next” to continue.

-
FileZilla has several security and profile related settings. How you configure these will depend on where the computer is set up. If:
-
The computer is for a single person’s personal use, or it does not matter if every user of the computer has access to passwords stored in FileZilla
Select “Do not use secure mode” and “Use XML file”.
-
The computer is in a public access environment, and all site profiles are to be shared, with passwords not saved
Select “Use secure mode” and “Use XML file”.
-
The computer is in use by multiple people, each with their own accounts on the computer, and these people wish to save their passwords
Select “Do not use secure mode” and “use registry” and “Force registry even if XML file exists”.
Click “Install” to continue.

-
FileZilla will now show its install progress. Once it has completed installing, click “Close” to close the installer.

-
You have now successfully installed the FileZilla File Transfer Application. To launch it, you may now double click the “FileZilla” icon on your desktop. The program launch icon looks similar to the one which you may have downloaded to install FileZilla. The difference is the launch icon does not have numbers in it. If you see the language selection box from step 3 when you double click on it, you have selected the wrong icon, and you should click “Cancel” and double click on the OTHER FileZilla icon on your desktop.
