Version 3.X.X
Version 2.X.X
Resources

Here are the basic steps required to set up FileZilla v3.X.X for connecting to your VICNET Web space.

Unless otherwise stated, VICNET advises that you leave the default settings in place when you install FileZilla. Failure to use the installation defaults shown may mean we’re unable to assist you with problems you may have.

  1. Download version 3.1.5.1 (the latest as of 15/11/2008), and save it to your desktop.

  2. When you have downloaded the installer, you’ll find an icon on the desktop similar to the picture below. Double click it to launch the installer. Depending on how your copy of windows is configured, you may see .exe on the end of the filename.

  3. You will now be presented with the program’s license information. FileZilla is licensed under the GNU Public License. In this case it effectively means it is legally free to use. Click I Agree to continue if you agree to the terms of the license.

  4. Choose whether you want everybody to have access to FileZilla or just yourself. Click Next to continue.

  5. This next screen allows you to choose which components of FileZilla you wish to install. Tick Desktop Icon to place a copy of the program launch icon on your desktop and click Next to continue.

  6. FileZilla will now ask where it is to be installed. Accept the default location (in Destination Folder) and click Next to continue.

  7. The location within the Programs menu where FileZilla will appear is now shown. Leave the location as shown and click Install to continue.

  9. Once it has completed installing you will see the window as shown below. Click the Finish button to close the installer.

  10. You have now successfully installed the FileZilla File Transfer Application. To launch it, you may now double click the FileZilla Client icon on your desktop. The program launch icon looks similar to the one which you may have downloaded to install FileZilla. The difference is the launch icon does not have numbers in it. If you see the license agreement box from step 3 when you double click on it, you have selected the wrong icon, and you should click Cancel and double click on the OTHER FileZilla icon on your desktop.
