Windows: Magic Mail Monitor

Basic Configuration

Magic Mail Monitor is the special little utility VICNET Help staff have been using to delete large email messages that block our customer's mailboxes.

Magic Mail Monitor 2.8 works by taking a peek at the stored email in a mailbox, without downloading or deleting it from the server. You can then view the basic details of each email and determine if you need to delete any bloated emails. Here's how to configure Magic Mail Monitor:

  1. Click the Start button, then select Magic Mail Monitor v2.8 from Programs and then Magic Mail Monitor v2.8
  2. Select the Edit menu and then select New Mailbox. You will then see the following box:
  3. Type in the following:
    • Alias: give this mail account setting a meaningful name to help distinguish between it and other mail account settings you may create. Replace jcitizen in the above example with you own username (the first part of your email address, the bit before the @ symbol) and type (VICNET) after that.
    • User: replace jcitizen in the above example with your own username (the first part of your email address, the bit before the @ symbol).
    • Host: mail.vicnet.net.au
    • Password: ********

  4. Click OK
  5. Select the File menu and then select Save. The Save As box will appear as follows:
  6. In the File name box, type in a meaningful name for this configuration file, such as vicnet.magic and click the Save button.

Those are all the settings you need to configure Magic Mail Monitor 2.8

You can now monitor email accounts, particularly for large email messages that may be blocking your other email from coming through. You can then delete any such messages in seconds!
