After the devastating Black Saturday bushfires, Australians were invited to share their support and sympathy by writing messages on pages that were collected across the country. These pages, along with letters from individuals across the world, were bound together into the 60 message books that make up the 2009 Victorian Bushfire Message Book Collection.

Housed in the State Library of Victoria, the collection also contains objects and documents relating to the 2009 Victorian bushfires.

A selection of message books and other material is on display in the Library's Cowen Gallery until 17 March 2010. You can also view the entire 2009 Victorian Bushfire Message Book Collection by request in the Heritage Collections Reading Room.
