Connecting communities through information technology

Ms Lily D’Ambrosio, the Minister for Community Development, launched the Public Internet Access program (PIAP) at the newly renovated Braybrook Maidstone Neighbourhood House (BMNH) on Wednesday 25th August 2010. Ms D’Ambrosio said that it is important for all Victorians to have access to the Internet for education, employment and information purposes.

 

The PIAP program assists the Braybrook Maidstone neighbourhood house to provide internet training and access to community members. Many of the members are Vietnamese, Sudanese, Indian, African, Ethiopian or Italian. Some are unemployed. Others are seniors. Ms Joan Greig, Chairperson for the BMNH noted that ‘every day the computers are in constant use’.

 

Also in attendance were the Honourable Marsha Thomson, MP for Footscray and the Mayor of Maribyrnong Mr San Sali with members of the BMNH board and community members.
