Account Administration

The VICNET VicOne web-based administration tool has the following features for mail and internet access:

the ability to Add, Delete and Edit account details for internet access accounts by an authorised staff member.
changes made will be reflected upon the server after 5 minutes and VICNET accounts will be informed automatically should any chargeable mailbox be created (ie, number greater than 25).
the ability to assign each account to access groups

VicOne E-mail

VICNET's VicOne service provides access to an easy to use web-based email service. One email account per class/form or twenty-five mailboxes (whichever is the lesser) is provided free of charge. Further VICONE web e-mail accounts are available from VICNET for $1.10 (includes G.S.T.) per e-mail account per annum. Each VICNET VicOne web mail account comes with 2 Mb of storage space.

VICNET's VicOne Web mail is easy to use. Each user can read; reply; forward; delete; their mail and update any profile information relating to their account. Archiving is possible via local download.

Web Filtering

Web access filtering prevents access to inappropriate sites. Using a simple web-based selection facility school administrators are able to use VICNET's VicOne service to configure use for all individual users, offering groupings:

unrestricted access;
restricted access to the Education Resource List only;
access to blacklisted sites (for staff, for example); or
disallowing access entirely

The blacklist is updated three times a week and contains over 100,000 blocked porn sites. It is also configured to block other types of material, such as extreme violence. The blacklist is customisable via upload of either URLs or IP addresses.

Use of this application is included in the price of the VICNET VicOne service.

Education Resource List

VICNET allows VicOne customers to restricted access to the Education Resource List. More information on this feature will be posted on this site in the near future.

Hosting and Domain Names

VICNET will host for public access, where requested, School Web pages using a system geared for the VICNET portal, one of the largest and busiest web sites in the country. The cost for this service is included in the VICNET VicOne account setup price. The process of domain re-delegation or delegation will depend on the time taken by the current host to re-delegate or the relevant authority to register the domain. VICNET will liaise with all parties to ensure as rapid and smooth a process as possible - which is included in the setup.

Hosting the school's edu.au domain names is included in the price of the account setup
Arranging for the set up the edu.au domain name for each new customer is included in the price of the account setup.
Updating of edu.au host records for each customer is included in the price of the account setup.
A Domain Name Server service is available for no extra cost

If the school has no Web site then the school's default URL will resolve to a common page for all schools that says there is no Web presence. This is included in the price for access.

A web space allocation of 10Mb is available for each school, which is included in the account price. Extra space is available from VICNET at competitive prices. Contact us for details.

A large number of other services are available to users, either free or at a reasonable fee. Examples of free services are:

form mail, and
A free training course is available for one member of staff in how to do HTML.

For-fee services include such services as forums, polls, mailing lists, either as discrete applications or as part of an integrated, custom-built suite for intra- or extranet use. VicOne Statistics

VICNET's online reporting of traffic offers download/upload and invoice history, as well as announcements. Further implementation of such tools (eg graphs, online payment) will be conducted as those tools become available. Billing is currently paper only but offering online payment is a priority for VICNET.
