Vicnet's domain hosting establishment fee (DNS Hosting) is $55 inc. GST, the annual fee is $330 inc. GST.

Domain registration is additional.

Virtual Web Servers

Once your domain name is hosted on Vicnet, a virtual web server can be created. This enables your web page to be viewed via your domain name. Your virtual web server package includes 500 MB web space, a virtual mail server (up to 100 email aliases and 20 mailboxes), Webalizer statistical report, PostgreSQL and MySQL datahosting, PHP Version 5.0.4 support, cgi-bin directory, and unlimited traffic. You also get phone and email support. Your data is backedup weekly, and a copy of your site is stored offsite once a month. We provide an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). Your web pages are updated by 24 hour FTP access. Our accounts department is also available for any billing queries. Our sales department is also available for any additional services that you might require.

IP Hosting

As of 16 July 2003 Vicnet no longer provides IP based virtual hosting. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused. Vicnet's hosting now employs name-based virtual hosting which is an industry standard.

Directories on Your Site

When your virtual web server is created, a public_html directory will be created for you to place your web pages into. Within that directory is a LOGS folder containing your Webalizer statistics. If you wish your LOGS directory to be password protected please inform webhelp@vicnet.net.au. As well as the public_html directory, you will also have a cgi-bin directory. You can place CGI scripts into that directory. Your scripts may be checked by Vicnet. Certain scripts such as Matt's Script Archive scripts are not permitted. Also scripts which cause excessive server load are not permitted. Within your cgi-bin directory is a common directory containing scripts available for all virtual web server users on that server. For assistance with these scripts, please contact webhelp@vicnet.net.au.

Finding Your Own Scripts

If you wish to find your own scripts, the CGI-Resources site is a good one to try. Please note we do not permit Matt Wright scripts on our site. A suitable alternative for these scripts is available at the nms site. Please note also that our system administrators reserve the right to disable your scripts if their functioning is affecting server load, security or privacy.

Adding subdomains or hostnames to your domain on Vicnet

There is no DNS Hosting charge for additional subdomains or hostnames to a domain name hosted with Vicnet. An additional Virtual Web Server fee of $330 inc. GST per year will apply for each additional subdomain or hostname. When applying please specify if you require either or both http://www.subname.name.com/ and http://subname.name.com/. If you are an existing customer please complete the billing details for confirmation and Vicnet will invoice your account.

Additonal Web Space Prices

The following prices are applicable for virtual web servers on our Moroka server. The prices are not applicable for virtual web servers on our Avoca server. The price is determined on the total web space that you require for your web site. The extra space details are for information only. Invoicing for existing customers will be adjusted when your annual payment is due.
