DESCENDANTS OF CONVICTS Members of the Genealogical Society of Victoria felt that as there was an increasing interest in convicts and the convict system of Australia, the formation of a group dedicated to the promotion of this interest would be beneficial. So in 1981 it was agreed to form "The Descendants of Convicts Group", for those who could claim a convict forebear who had been transported to an Australian colony, in penalty of crime, between 1788 and 1868, or for those who had a special interest in convicts. The aims of the Group are to educate participating members on matters pertaining to the convict system. There are regular meetings, field visits, workshops and social events. http://home.vicnet.net.au/~dcginc/

HEAR IT FREE ONLINE! Internet Radio means hearing streaming audio, for free, over the Internet. [Streaming means it plays continuously as it downloads, you don't have to wait]. Whole tracks are played, not just samples. The Websites offering this service make their money from banner ads on the site, plus from any CD (or MP3) purchases you may make, if you chose to buy a track (or album) that you like the sound of. As with radio, you can't play a track on demand, but listen to a selection of music in the particular genre you've chosen. It helps if you have a fast Internet connection, but even with a 33.6k modem, you can hear stereo playback. Best results are obtained with the higher speed processors found in the more recent computers. You will also need audio playback software (free). Software includes the RealMedia Player, Windows Media Player, Liquid Audio, Winamp and others. Internet Radio can entertain you in the background whilst surfing the Net, or working on your PC, as long as you are connected to the Internet. There are dozens of channels, in every musical genre. It is also a great way to hear non-commercial, Indie music, and unsigned bands, that get no other airplay. Try some of these sites for free streaming Internet Radio: http://www.NetRadio.com/ http://radio.sonicnet.com/ http://www.Spinner.com/ http://www.MP3.com/ http://www.SonicNet.com/ http://www.AudioHighway.com/ http://www.MusicNet.com/ http://goan.com/radio.html http://www.shockwave.com/ http://www.shoutcast.com/ http://www.music.tucows.com/ http://www.radiodestiny.com/ Many CD sales sites offer a wide range of CD clips. Try these: http://cdnow.com/from=sr-767167 http://www.Amazon.com/ http://www.ChaosMusic.com/ [this is not "radio" - it's samples of individual tracks, not continuous streaming, multi-track channels. You pick the tracks you want to hear, though] and for the free software you'll need, try: http://www.Real.com/ http://www.shockwave.com/ http://www.liquidaudio.com/ http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer/ http://www.winamp.com/ Got music of your own you want heard? Submit it to a site such as MP3.com for airplay - you may even make a few bucks selling it! Or try a Streaming Audio Hosting Service such as audioplayer.com. They offer an automated streaming audio service, with active RealAudio server. http://www.mp3.com/ http://www.AudioPlayer.com/ also take a look at "The Home of Live Music on the Internet" http://www.hob.com/live/
