Area Settlement Schemes.

LOCATION:  Katandra District in North Central Victoria ,Australia.
The Katandra and District History Group  are researching the early farm settlements in the Katandra area .

There were two main settlement schemes,

  1. The Soldiers Settlement from 1919.
  2. The Closer Settlement from 1926.
Both of these schemes resulted in immense hardship for some of the families involved. Some of the closer settlers were Australian families but many were English immigrant families who were led to believe there was a ready made farm waiting for them in Katandra.

We are looking to contact  the families involved with the settlement of these farms. Many of the English families returned to England in the early 1930's, other farmers moved to other parts of Australia and some stayed on in the area.
