About UsThe Kingston Bicycle Users Group (BUG), is a group of local cyclists that is working to improve conditions for cyclists within the City of Kingston and in surrounding municipalities. We are implementing locally the Bicycle Victoria aim of getting more people cycling more often. Membership is free and open to any persons who share this aim.The BUG achieves its objectives by members lobbying together as a self-help group to work on our projects. These may be large such as the Beach Road Bike Path, which forms part of the Round The Bay Trail, or as small as a pothole in your local street, or a bike parking rail at your milk bar. Lobbying may take the form of writing letters to the decision makers, going to meetings like the ones for the Kingston Open Space Strategy, or working with municipal and other bodies on specific projects such as implementation of the Kingston Bicycle Strategy. Remember you are not a lone voice for cycling, but have access to the resources of other members and their support. I am Convener of our group. My duties are to organise the advocacy section of Bayside Bicycle Touring Club meetings, where we discuss our projects (and generally natter and talk bikes). I hope you decide to join us. The larger and more active our group, the more effective we will be. Joe Astbury. |
