OBJECTIVES
To provide INTERNET access to the catalogues of Victorian Public Libraries with alternative to print collections for people with print disabilities.
To enable people with print disabilities to access these catalogues
independently either via an enlarged screen or synthesised speech.
THE PROJECT
The first stage of the project has involved networking the catalogues of the Braille and Talking Book Library and the Talking Book library through VICNET. Participating libraries will be installing various VICNET/Internet links through 1996.
The next stage will involve developing a specialised common interface to allow easy access to catalogues and the information resources of the Internet.
Project Participants have worked closely with VICNET personnel and would like
to acknowledge the support of VICNET, Dataplex and Arts Victoria.
The PLANET project
was launched by Ms Elizabeth Hastings, Disability Discrimination Commissioner at the Toorak/South Yarra Library, 340 Tookak Road, South Yarra
at 11am on Friday 19th April 1996.
