Schedule of Activities in Melbourne

Monthly Activities

Kosen Rufu World Peace Meet is on the 1st sunday of every month. It is hold at the Melbourne Gakkai, 12 Ripon Grove, Elsternwick. Tel: (03) 9523-7669.

Kangaroo Meet is on the same day as Kosen Rufu. The kangaroo group is a small group comprising children age between 3 to 10 years old. The kangaroo group was named by Mr Sasaki on a previous visit to Melbourne. He said, "This group, like the kangaroo will always go forward, never backwards."

The purpose in enstigating the group is :-

1. to make children feel equally as important as other (adult) members. They are after all a very important part of the SGI Family.
2. to develop the freedom to express their views and ideas, their likes and dislikes.
3. to make friends with the other kids.
4. to support and help their parents with their practice.

These meeting normally last about one to one and a half hours. Each kid takes a turn at leading thus giving them confidence, experience and above all self-esteem. The topics of discussion range far and wide including any current personal problems or events happening in the district or at the Community Centre, the environment, safety, manners, school, drugs and also have craft, drawing, painting, poetry, dancing, story-telling, video and games. The group is also responsible for some excellent chanting charts and cartoon stories.
